[edit] Strongwoman
Charmion is certainly notable for pioneering the striptease on a trapeze, if only because so many scholars are so distracted by her "Disrobing Act", that it's all they mention about her. But she was also plainly a vaudeville strongwoman, and promoted that aspect of her career heavily in her day. However, the only evidence I've been able to find of this (so far) is photographic. Buttons and postcards of her keep showing up on eBay and such, and they're muscle poses, not those of a stripper or of an acrobat.
Any help in locating references to her strongwoman act would be appreciated. -- Yamara 21:00, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] DEFAULTSORT and alphabetization of "Charmion"
Charmion was known to the public by that name, not as "Laverie Vallee" or "Laverie Cooper", thus it would seem appropriate that when her single name is alphabetically sorted, obviating the need for DEFAULTSORT, it would be under the stage name "Charmion", especially since that is how the article is titled. However, even if one insisted on alphabetizing her as "Vallee, Laverie", the only way that could be done is by abandoning the article title "Charmion" and moving it to "Laverie Vallee", a name which the public barely knew, if at all. The reason that the present arrangement of "TITLE:Charmion---DEFAULTSORT:Vallee" is unworkable lies in the technical limitation in the functioning of DEFAULTSORT. DEFAULTSORT's only function is to establish the article's alphabetical position---it cannot change the article's title. As matters currently stand, anyone looking for "Vallee, Laverie" in Category:1875 births, Category:1949 deaths or Category:Strongwomen will not find her under "V", nor find "Charmion" under "C". Instead, for no seemingly discernible reason, Charmion is now between Evelyn Underhill and David van Embden in Category:1875 births. All of her other Categories have her similarly mis-alphabetized. I did not delete DEFAULTSORT for the second time, specifically to enable to viewing of each Category in its present state to confirm the state of affairs. —Roman Spinner (talk) 22:30, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- With Vulcana on the exact same list, it looks less weird. But your point is certainly valid. It's gone. -- Yamara 23:21, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
