[edit] emusic

I just downloaded a four-album Charlie Christian box set from emusic so I'll have some stuff for this article soon. Ortolan88 03:55, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] '41 Minton's sessions, Django, etc

Those credits are wrong, and the titles were added later to avoid royalty payments. "Kerouac" is "Exactly Like You" and Christian isn't even on it or either "Stardust" that is included in some Minton's sets. One of the pianists is Kenny Kersey. The trumpet is Joe Guy except "Lips" Page On "Lips" Flips." I believe L. Valdes' site "Solo Flight" has the personnel on a discography.- KC

There seems to be some debate if Theolonious Monk was in fact the pianist in the recorded 1941 Minton's Playhouse sessions. The Charlie Christian discography at http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/hansen/Charlie/ccdisc.htm says no.

The bio on the same site gives guitarist Mary Osborne as a source for Charlie playing Django Reinhardt solos in 1938. http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/hansen/Charlie/ccbio3.htm

btw, Does anyone know how the tune called Kerouac got the name? Jack would have been a virtually unknown sailor at the time. A jazz fan to be sure, who maybe made the scene at Mintons, but i doubt he was someone Christian would have named a head arrangement for.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:LesterYoung.jpg

Image:LesterYoung.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:09, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

  • I have tried to load photos and they keep getting deleted. I know family members and biographers and have permission to use photos. One in particular is not even copyrighted and in the public domain, but somebody who thinks they know better keeps pulling it down.Erviltnec 02:57, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Hot" Jazz

The link to "hot" jazz just links to the article on jazz. Is there any way to fix this to actually make it explain something? - The Fwanksta (talk) 05:05, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hot jazz pertains to the early period of jazz prior to the 1930s swing movement. Mainly, all jazz, pre-1935, was hot jazz.Dogru144 (talk) 03:58, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Comments on his significance

The first paragraph(s) of the article had very bold assertions about Christian's importance. He certainly was a Genius, but it is essential that we provide references for statments on his importance, especially when referring to "many critics" (a WP:weasel word). nonetheless, the material is very important -we can restore it if we just get some references. I've saved the comments immediately below:

cool and modern jazz.[citation needed] Many critics believe that he alone is the link between hot and modern jazz — that there is jazz before Charlie Christian and jazz after Charlie Christian.[citation needed]
