[edit] Undisputed last survivor

  • I put "undisputed" in the text as there is a former Marine named Raymond Jacobs, who lives in California, who says it is he carrying the radio in the first flag raising photos. He has a website, which can be found on the "Flag Raising on Iwo Jima" page (linked under Lowery's photo of the first flag). The photos and the newspaper articles seem to suggest he is telling the truth. Sir Rhosis 23:29, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
  • The Chicago Tribune story states that Jacobs claims to be the person usually identified as Pfc. Gene Marshall, a radio operator with the 5th Marine Division who died in 1987. Jacobs claims should certainly be discussed. Capitalistroadster 23:43, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stub classification

I have classified this article as a stub. It needs to be expanded especially on the circumstances of the first flag raising. I have classified its importance as low but I am open to debate.Capitalistroadster 23:43, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

  • I agree with your rating. Former Marines and history buffs know who he was, but others have no idea there was a "first" flag, and probably confuse him with the aviator. Sir Rhosis 23:53, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
  • I have reclassified this article as a start as it is now expanded with sections. I will also put it forward at DYK for the first flag. Capitalistroadster 04:12, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
  • WAS this person related to Charles Lindberg, the aviator? If so, I think this should be mentioned. If not, then I think that should also be stated. Raphael 15:48, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Copying

I pulled a paragraph from the article about the famous flagraising. Not sure if Wikipedia allows this sharing. Will rewrite if it is considered plagiarism. Sir Rhosis 00:07, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
