[edit] GA on hold
I have reviewed this article according to the GA criteria and have put the article on hold until the following issues are addressed.
"Raised in Maine to be a sea captain, Loring instead found his calling as a civic leader in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he became a wealthy flour miller and in Riverside, California where he built city hall." "Found his calling" probably shouldn't be used and the rest of the sentence should probably be "...miller and then in Riverside, California helped to build the local city hall."
-
Thanks, fixed.
"Although he had poor health, he was a popular and generous man." These two clauses seem unrelated and the last half may be seen as POV. Reword the sentence. Same goes for "Loring was very well liked.", probably just remove it.
-
"Although he had poor health" removed for lack of a precise citation. "Popular" and "generous" cited. Also cited "very well liked" (it is not a direct quote from the biographers but they generally express this).
#Add inline citation for "Minneapolis was founded at Saint Anthony Falls, the only waterfall on the Mississippi River, because of the potential for energy created by falling, flowing water."
"In 1861, Loring joined Fletcher in L. Fletcher & Co.," What is Fletcher's first name? - It is Loren, as mentioned earlier.
#"He was relected each term and served until 1890" Reelected is spelled wrong.
"Cleveland made his "crowning achievement" in Minneapolis at the end of his career, in part thanks to "kindred spirits." Add an inline citation for the "kindred spirits" part.
-
Done. Authorship of the quote also corrected.
#"Named by Folwell, the 52 mile (83 km) Grand Rounds circles from Northeast, Minneapolis" Add hyphen between 52 mile.
"In 1889 in his winter home in Riverside, California, Loring constructed an office block with a 1,000-seat theater on the first floor that hosted performers such as W.C. Fields and Sarah Bernhardt." Add wikilinks for W.C. Fields and Sarah Bernhardt.Rename "Named for Loring" and possibly consider splitting off the information about his death into it's own section.Include what he died of, if available.
-
Sorry I found no record of cause of death. Section name changed to "Legacies".
The article looks good overall besides the above suggestions. Fix them within seven days and I'll pass the article. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions or when you are done and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 22:01, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the review Nehrams2020, and thanks also to Appraiser for starting in on the corrections. These items are all fixed. An error found in the process is also fixed. If you think "very well liked" needs to come out I can remove it but for now left it in as is a rough summary of two biographers' descriptions that this was so (and is cited now). I will leave a note on your talk page that these fixes are done. Best wishes. -Susanlesch 15:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] GA passed
I have passed this article according to the GA criteria. Good job on making the changes so quickly. There are two more minor things that need to be fixed:
In the second sentence in the intro, change to "a city hall".
-
Done. Changed to "the first city hall."
It is good that the well-liked sentence is sourced, but the sentence needs to be expanded on also. Who liked him? Friends, colleagues, politicians? Elaborate a little more.
-
Removed it for now. -Susanlesch 17:05, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Make sure that the article keeps its high quality and ensure that all new information is properly sourced. If you have the time, please consider reviewing an article or two at GAC to help with the current drive to remove the large backlog. Each new reviewer helps to cut down the waiting time for a review of new candidates. Again, good work and I hope that you continue to improve the quality of articles on Wikipedia! --Nehrams2020 00:27, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
