I removed this odd bit as unsourced:
- There is a local legend of the “White Lady" surrounding the fort. According to legend, it involved a newly-wed couple. The bride some beautiful flowers at the base of the wall and she asked her husband to get them for her. The husband believed that it was to dangerous for him to attempt, so he asked a soldier on sentry duty to retrieve them for him. the soldier did so reluctantly. unfortunately the days affairs took their toll on the husband and he fell asleep. The governor of Charles Fort was on his rounds of the fort, at twilight on the day of his daughters' wedding, mistook her newly-wed husband for a negligent sentry and shot him, fatally wounding him this was meant as a warning that negligence of duty would not be tolerated. When the bride discovered what had happened, she rushed to the battlements and plunged into the ocean.
