[edit] Source

What is the source of this document, is it the 1911 Brittanica?

This document is original and based on recent Brown scholarship generally. The 1911 Britannica article is an extremely poor source, inaccurate and long out-of-date. The current article incorporates all of Brown's biographies (Dunlap, Warfel, Clark, Kafer) and recent, post-1985 studies.

Btw, whoever is adding links, please be aware that the Alfred Weber mentioned here (an American studies scholar) is not the same Alfred Weber who has an article in Wikipedia (an economist).

[edit] Cooper

Is the reference to "Cooper" in the article to be directed to James Fenimore Cooper? Allissonn 18:32, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

That's correct: Fenimore Cooper. There is no other major US novelist of the period with that name.
