I think image of the illustration of a medieval chandelier really helps this article. It's nice that the image shows people below it, givin an indication of how high the chandelier is hung. However, this does make the thumbnail a bit on the small side.

Is it possible to provide a manually trimmed image for use as a thumbnail, with the full, untrimmed image shown when it is clicked on ?

Cheers.

In Chap 3, Sect II of David McCullough’s 1776, he discusses “chandeliers” being used as a weapon. Can anyone add insight to this?

THANX!!!

A good description (with illustration) of this type of "chandelier" as a defense mechanism can be found at: Engineers of Independence - A Documentary History of the Army Engineers in the American Revolution, 1775-1783, Chapter 3, BUNKER HILL AND THE SIEGE OF BOSTON 1775-1776

[edit] Images

Do we really need 15 different pictures of chandeliers? We get it, they come in many different styles. Don't need 15 pictures to illustrate what a light fixture looks like. Recommend someone more familiar with the article and its material than myself does something about it before start poking around to try and fix it.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 01:42, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Oni Ookami Alfador, I appreciate that you acknowledge your not so qualified to edit the article. So, here is a question: what is your need to use foul language in your edit summary? That doesn't help resolve what you are perceiving as a problem. The subject is many and varied by period and by geographic location, hence the gallery. I've tried to edit the images towrd showing a cross section of time periods, geographic location, and image quality. CApitol3 (talk) 19:24, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
A picture of soap? My that's clever. First of all, if you have a problem with my conduct, take it to my talk page. This page is for discussions related TO THE ARTICLE and it's improvement. Second, I did not use "foul language", so please take more care in pointing fingers. Maybe grow up.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 20:03, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

hey Oni, you used foul language on the edit summary on this article. Don't attempt to deflect by admonishing me. I am not a right wing Christian kook, but I don't care for using anyone's god's name in the way you used Christ's. For an editor who claims not to know much about chandeliers you take great interest in its munutia. Your description of overwhelming is subjective. It's your take on what is overwhelming. Take a look at Carpenter Gothic – overwhelming? Looks to my mind to be territorial. CApitol3 (talk) 04:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure why every stooge who has an editor disagree with them immediately starts pulling out examples of other articles. Get it through your head, WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS doesn't mean a thing. So what? We're not dealing with that article, we're dealing with THIS ONE. And like I said before, if a little undirected euphemism is a reason for you get all upset, maybe you don't belong here. --Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 19:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

We're still going on about this are we? Please take your own advice and drop it instead of making baseless accusations because someone disagrees with you. I don't very much appreciate the assault on my character calling my uptight and whatnot just because you can't let go of a few pictures. In fact, it would seem that you are the one that needs to calm down a wee bit. Please refrain from the sarcastic remarks and personal attacks thank you very much.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 19:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Please cease use of profanity and your own personal attacks. I'll chill if you will, but not let's pretend you've been a shining example of live and let live. You suggest that wikipeida isn't the place for me because I take offense of your profanity. You call me stooge and then attempt to cover that up. Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Please confine your comment to content, not contributors. Personal attacks, use of profanity, and coarse, or foul language all damage our community. Remember that wikipedia is a diverse community and always err on the side of caution in communications. What may seem casual, or even humorous, expletives in your own culture may be offensive to others. The continued use of coarse, or foul language may result in blocking your account. Please remember that wikipedia is a project authored jointly as a community and that editors may not always agree. Further, no one editor "owns" a particular article and the process of editing requires civil engagement to resolve difference and develop article content. I propose we each walk way from this for a week and see then if we need to revisit. CApitol3 (talk) 20:50, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Obviously you can't follow your own advice and "let it go". Please leave me alone. Just because you are overly sensitive to the point of paranoia doesn't mean you have to pull me into it for Christ's sake. In one final word (since I will be dropping the matter after this) allow me to remind you that you initiated this little attack-fest with a failed attempt at soap humour.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 21:59, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Oni, you really can't walk away can you? you have to get a couple final digs in – paranoia and more foul language, in of course no personal attack there. Knock yourself out. This is a freakin' article on light fixtures! How do you personalize that!? This is about control. My soap humor was a response to your "Christ" use in edit summary. Everyone has their line in the sand. You leave me alone, I'll return the favor. CApitol3 (talk) 22:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Still the sensitive one are we? Might I remind you that you had transgressed first. Keep in mind there is NOTHING in wikipedia policy about profanity. My edit summary was directed at article content, not a person, as you have chosen to do with me. I've been on both the inside and outside of the issues before. Someone says fuck and the person drops threats to ban people. One person even went so far as to make a template for it. If you don't like the language someone is using, ask nicely on their talkpage. Don't waste article talk space bitching about it and engaging in snide personal attacks. --Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 21:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Sweetie, my soap pic was not intended to wound or embarrass. I am very sorry to have hurt your feelings. Curious that you accuse me of being sensitive and thin skinned. Whether wiki prohibits profanity or potty mouth, or does not, isn't really the final word on civility. Wikipedia is a reference on human knowledge, written and edited by people who possess knowledge of the subject. Potty mouth in edit summaries and discussion pages doesn't really reinforce a sense of integrity or respectability for wikipedia. Try to see that I am not really attacking you, but am not approving of profanity and potty mouth behavior. CApitol3 (talk) 15:00, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
