[edit] Rationale
The rationale is provided according to the Wikipedia non-free content use criterion checklist.
- No free equivalent. This is a specific piece of art produced by a specific artist. It is not possible for anyone else to create a free equivalent. The artist himself is dead.
- Commercial opportunity respected. The image is very small and the character is put out of context on this particular image (i.e. not as part of a whole page or even a whole panel). Therefore, it doesn't hurt commercial opportunities at all.
- It respects the minimal use and low resolution guidelines.
- It had a previous publication.
- Encyclopedic content The image used to describe the character on the article written specifically on the character. The article has enough critical commentary on the character.
- It meets the Image use policy: (a) tagged with image copyright tags; (b) used the image description page; (c) has a clear detailed title; (d) is in proper resolution; (e) properly cropped; (f) color alone not used; (g) proper image format; (h) no alternative text available; (i) thumbnail size not specified; (j) not shocking or explicit.
- Used in one article minimum
- Significant. No comic-book character (or any other piece of art) can be satisfactorily depicted without a visual representation. It adds about as much value as the text on the article.
- Respects the restriction on location.
- The image description page includes - (a) proper attribution; (b) appropriate fair use tag; (c) rationale is clear and is in plain language.
Depicts a a character of the comics, and is used in the article on the character.
