Chathannoor

Chathannoor is a town in Kerala situated at the Kollam District on the banks of river 'Ittikarayar'.Chathannoor is around 50 km north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on the National Highway (NH 47).

It is one of the fastest developing towns in Kerala. It is a Special Grade Panchayath in Kollam District and can be reached by Bus and Train.

Chathannoor is well connected to other parts of Kerala by road. National Highway (NH47), which is coming from Salem, is going via Chathannoor to Kanyakumari. NH 47 is passing through the centre of the town. Kollam Railway station is only 18 km from the town and is well connected by buses. The nearest airport is Thiruvanathapuram International Airport.We can go to Kottarakara by buses.

Chathanoor is famous for its religious aspects as well. Some of the famous temples and churches in-and-around Chathanoor includes Sree Bhoothanadha Temple, Chenamathu Shiva Temple,St.George Orthodox church,Chistos marthoma church and Marakkulam St:Thomas Marthoma church. Chenamathu Shiva Temple gives the aura of a typical Kerala temple with a vast paddy field near it. The temple is unique in its construction as it is sculptured out of stone.The temple was described in the 'Unni Neeli Sandesham'.The temple is known to have been reconstruct in the year 1268 A D.So it is under the control of Archeological Survey of India. Sree Bhoothanadha Temple's festival during March attracts lot of crowds because of the huge number of elephants and the unique feature of having "edappukuthira".Marakkulam is one of the very beautiful places in chathannoor.
