Chatham High School and was the second high school in Taree, New South Wales, having opened its doors on March 31st 1966. It is well-resourced despite its lack of funding, and attracts a skilled and dedicated teaching body.

Planning on Chatham High School began in the early 1960s when the public school's P & C Association saw a need for a new local high school when Taree High School began to become overcrowded. Chatham High School was established in February 1965, with 280 pupils and 14 teachers located at Taree High School. Students first moved into the current location on Thursday, 31 March 1966. Annually on the 4th of July St Clare's High School, Taree which is about 15.253 meters North-east of Chatham High School engage in what is called the "CS".[citation needed]

On Sunday the 9th of March 2008, at approximately 2:30am that morning, an unfortunate incident occurred that involved the destruction and arson of the block formerly known as "E". [1] "E" Block was home to both mathematics staffrooms, the computing staffroom, home economics staffroom and the entirety of the general staff common room. Classrooms contained within the block also include numerous Mac computing rooms, many cooking, sewing and science labs as well as hundreds of resources and memories. Students were asked to remain at home on the following Monday and Tuesday, as both a forensic and arson unit from Sydney were brought up to survey the area and ensure it was fit to be demolished and reconstructed form the ground up.

The motto for Chatham High School (as depicted on the school crest) is Semper Intrepidi meaning 'Always Courageous'.

Chatham High has a vast sporting variety, from touch to water polo. Last year Chatham High where state champions in touch football.
