The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is an independent professional body and a registered charity, advancing the science and practice of water and environmental management for a clean, green and sustainable world.

CIWEM came into being in 1987 when the Institution of Public Health Engineers merged with the Institution of Water Engineers and Scientists and the Institute of Water Pollution Control to form the Institution of Water and Environmental Management. Through these earlier groups, the Institution has a history of working in environmental management dating back to 1895. CIWEM was granted a Royal Charter in 1995 and celebrated its centenary in the same year.

[edit] International Environmental Photographer of the Year Competition

CIWEM runs the International Environmental Photographer of the Year Competition. This competition seeks to celebrate photographers who use their ability to raise awareness of environmental and social issues.
