[edit] History

Growing out of a family owned business that started in 1921 with a seed store in Bangkok's Chinatown, CPF was registered as Charoen Pokphand Feedmill Company Limited on January 17, 1978. It was renamed Charoen Pokphand Foods in 1999 and has the slogan "Kitchen of the World."

In addition to Thailand, the company has vast interests in China, as well as Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and India.

[edit] Products

CPF products include hybrid corn, rice, fertilizers, pineapple, guava, mango, bananas, melons, other tropical fruits, orchids, tea, wine, horticultural products, export-quality planting materials and machinery for agricultural work and food processing.

[edit] Seeds

CPF's Chia Tai seed brand holds a significant share in Thailand’s vegetable seed and flower seed market, and exports seeds to other Asian markets. CP has also started developing organic vegetables for the domestic market.

[edit] Animal feed

CPF’s feed manufacturing began in 1954 and it has grown into the fifth-largest feed-mill operator in the world. The company produces feed for poultry, swine and shrimp, as well as pet food for dogs, cats and fish, in Thailand, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Turkey, Taiwan, the United States and Vietnam.

The Pet Business Group, which includes Perfect Companion Company Limited, produces dog, cat, bird, aquarium fish, horse food and zoo animal feed, for export. Export destinations include Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan and Taiwan.

[edit] Livestock

In its poultry and duck raising, the company has strategic alliances with two US-based companies, Arbor Acres (1970) and Avian Farms (1980; acquired by Cobb-Vantress Inc. in 2000).

For swine, the company has imported pig stock from the US, Belgium and Holland, and has developed its own three cross-breed “superior hybrid” pigs.

[edit] Aquaculture

In 1985, CPF established a Shrimp Culture Research Center, to develop "intensive environmentally friendly shrimp cultivation" as a "model" for other countries.

CPF has become the world’s largest producer of shrimp and fish feed and is the world’s largest exporter of black tiger shrimp.

CP Group has also developed Thai fresh water prawns (koong kam kram) and also the tubtim fish (Ruby fish), a hybrid of Tilapia that includes the Nile Tilapia and the Black Tilapia.

The company has four frozen-food lines: Jade Dragon, Bakerich, Le Pain and Deli Thai.
