Charm City Swing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charm City Swing, a Baltimore based non-profit organization, is dedicated to introducing non-dancers to the art of swing dancing. They run social dances every Monday night at the Austin Grill in Canton, teaching a combination of Lindy Hop, Charleston, and East Coast Swing during a beginner class.

After the class, a social dance is held where people dance to classic swing and big band music such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong; neo-swing such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers; blues like Sidney Bechet, Muddy Waters, and modern pop such as Rhianna, Gorillaz, and Christina Aguilera.

Charm City Swing was started by Dorry Segev and Sommer Gentry in March, 2005. In order to make the venue more approachable, discounts are given to students and newcomers.
