[edit] Team Kit and Sponsors

During this season, Charlton's kits were produced by Joma. The club retained the sponsorship of the Spanish property company, Llanera, who have now declared bankruptcy. This now means that CAFC will have a new sponsorship deal for the 2008-2009 campaign. People who have invested in Llanera property are assured that their investment is safe.[citation needed]

[edit] Season Review

[edit] Pre-season

Early pre-season was dominated by the transfer involving England striker Darren Bent. A fee was agreed with West Ham United, but the player himself rejected the deal,[1] instead choosing to join Tottenham Hotspur two weeks later for a club record sale of £17 million.[2] A number of other players, such as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink,[3] Talal El Karkouri[3] and Hermann Hreidarsson, also left the club after relegation. Manager Pardew also brought a number of players to cushion the losses of players from the previous season, including Scott Carson, Alexandre Song and Zheng Zhi who had been on loan. In early July, Chris Powell joined the club for the third time.

[edit] League review

After the first ten games of the season, Charlton were second in the league table behind leaders Watford. They had beaten Sheffield Wednesday, Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Leicester City and Hull City, drawn with Scunthorpe United, Colchester United, Coventry City and Barnsley and lost just once, to Stoke City. But now, at the end of the season, Charlton are 12th losing several matches, the worst being their embarrising loss to struggling Barnsley 3-0.
