Charlie Slowes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charlie Slowes is a longtime American sportscaster who is currently the radio play-by-play announcer for the Washington Nationals.
Before becoming the Nationals' radio announcer, Slowes was previously a familiar voice in the Washington, D.C. sports market when he was the radio voice of the Washington Bullets from 1986 to 1997. After eleven seasons with the Bullets, he joined the expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998 as their radio play-by-play announcer, a position he held until 2004 when he joined the Nationals the next year.
He has gained some notoriety in Washington with his unique home run call of "Bang, zoom go the fireworks!" and "A Curly W (referring to the Nationals logo) is in the books!" when the Nationals win, as well as for his histrionics and the high energy nature of his calls during excited periods of play.
A graduate of Fordham University, Slowes has also worked for SportsPhone and the minor league AAA Tidewater Tides.
