[edit] Personal Life

Charlie is one of two children born to Shaniqua and François Moreno in El Paso, TX. His childhood was turbulent at times due to an often violent environment brought on by his father's drug addiction. His family moved around several government housing complexes. One night during one of his father's drunken episodes in 1984, Charlie's older brother was injured when their bunk bed collapsed on top of him under the weight of their mother and father fighting. His father was arrested, his brother taken to the hospital with serious lacerations from nails and broken wood. The family soon moved in to the local Battered Women's Shelter where days later his father was arrested later that week for trespassing. Shortly after this incident his father began attending a Born Again Christian church and Charlie's mother decided to save the marriage. After his mother saved money from working two jobs the family moved into a house where the problems only intensified.

Charlie's father left the home in 1990. Charlie's brother, at the age of 16 became addicted to drugs and alcohol and his mother continued to work two jobs leaving Charlie no choice but to grow up fast. At the age of 14 Charlie began experimenting with drugs and gangs. His brother was hospitalized for suicidal and homicidal tendencies. Charlie and his mother were evicted from their home.

In 2000, Charlie began to perform stand up comedy at local open mics and karaoke bars. In 2001, after being forced to move out of their home, Charlie decided to move to New York City with only $300. Once upon his arrival he slept in the subways and parks until he finally registered as a homeless resident of New York state and was sent to a homeless shelter in Brooklyn, NY called "Castle Grayskull" by the homeless residents because of it's appearance at night closely resembled that of the cartoon.

Charlie Moreno was later transferred to a shelter in Harlem where he found a job two days later. He moved into his own apartment in 2002 and began performing at comedy clubs in New York City on a regular basis. After his brother was deployed to Iraq in 2004, Charlie decided to move back to El Paso, TX to be closer to his mother.

In 2006, while traveling back home from a few weeks on the road performing comedy, a close friend to Charlie committed suicide in Charlie's apartment. Suffering from depression Charlie decided to write a joke about this experience as a tribute to his friend who left a suicide note telling Charlie to "get some good material out of this..."

In September of 2006 Charlie Moreno wrote a short blog about the death of Steve Irwin ('The Crocodile Hunter'). The post quickly traveled through out the internet and outraged fans emailed Charlie and comedy clubs to protest. The negative feedback caused a comedy booking agent in New York City to hire Charlie for a special Cringe Humor show at Caroline's On Broadway which later earned him a spot on the New York Underground Comedy Festival the following year.

Charlie's E! True Hollywood story was once rejected.

Despite the international protests and boycotts Charlie continues to tour through out the country performing his comedy and is based out of El Paso, TX.

On April 23, 2008 while participating in a comedy roast in El Paso, TX Charlie Moreno confronted an open mic comedian named "Ponchi" about stealing material from other comedians. "Ponchi" in turn retaliated by mentioning the Charlie's Wikipedia page was full of spelling errors. The comedian did not even know he had a Wikipedia page.
