Charlestown High School is located in the northeastern part of Charlestown, Indiana. Its teams are known as the Pirates, a pattern that descends down to Charlestown's middle and elementary schools. In 2007 it has a student population of 668; the school could hold 700.[1]
On November 14, 2006, the Greater Clark County Schools board voted 7-0 to build a new Charlestown High School. The new school will consist of 100 acres (as opposed to the current building's 30-40 acres) and is intended to educate 900 students. A year later, on November 13, 2007, it was decided the new school will consist partially of parts of the current school, and will hold 900 students, with the possibility of being expanded to 1,200.[2]
