Charles Tyrwhitt ['tirit] was founded in 1986 as a mail order shirt company by Nicholas Charles Tyrwhitt Wheeler while he was a student at Bristol University[1].

Since then the company has grown rapidly and is now the largest mail order supplier of classic dress shirts in the UK and particularly popular in the United States. Its range of shirts has grown very strongly and now includes classic and contemporary styles. Tyrwhitt also sells a wide range of hand made silk ties, shoes and english and italian suits. They have also branched out into men’s casual and formal wear and have a growing women’s collection.

The first store was opened at 89 Jermyn Street, London in 1997 as the first retail outlet. The premises moved to No 92 Jermyn Street in 2001 as the range grew: it is now one of 9 stores worldwide, including two in New York, and one in Paris. Most recently opened is the flagship store on 7th Avenue, New York [2]. Tyrwhitt started operating online 10 years ago and is now very successful selling over the internet.
