Charles R. Meyer

Charles R. "Monk" Meyer was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1935, the first year the trophy was awarded. He was a 140-pound standout halfback for Army and went on to serve in the military for 30 years. He retired as a brigadier general in 1967. He was born at West Point, NY in May 1, 1911. He died Aug 11, 2001 and is buried at West Point, NY (US Military Academy).

During his military career, Meyer was awarded the following medals: a Distinguished Service Cross, a Silver Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Purple Heart with cluster.
