Charles Proctor Sifton

Charles Proctor Sifton (b. 1935, New York, NY) is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Judge Sifton received a [B.A.]] from Harvard College in 1957 and an LL.B. from Columbia Law School in 1961. He was nominated to the court by Jimmy Carter on August 16, 1977, to a seat vacated by John F. Dooling, Jr., confirmed by the Senate on October 12, 1977, and received his commission on October 12, 1977. He served as chief judge from 1995 to 2000 and assumed senior status on March 18, 2000.
