[edit] Academic Decathlon scandal

In 1995, Steinmetz' Academic Decathlon team, led by coach Jerry Plecki, defeated powerhouse Whitney Young High School for the Illinois high school state championship. However, an investigation later revealed that Stenmeitz had secured a copy of the final test questions before the championship took place. Afterwards, Steinmetz was forced to surrender their state title to Whitney Young. The incident was dramatized in the 2000 television movie Cheaters, parts of which were filmed (without permission) at Steinmetz.[1]
