Charles Jonas (1840–1896) was a Wisconsin politician. He was born in Maselow, Bohemia. He emigrated to Racine, Wisconsin in 1863; there he edited and published the Bohemian newspaper Slavie. He served as a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1878 and in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1883 to 1886. From 1886 to 1889 Jonas was the U.S. consul in Prague; he also served two terms as Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, from 1891 until 1894, when he resigned to become the U.S consul in St. Petersburg; in 1896, he was transferred to Crefield, Germany, where he died that same year.
