Charles J. McCann

Charles J. McCann was the first president of The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. He served from the college's inception in 1968 until his retirement in 1977, when he was replaced by former Washington governor Daniel J. Evans. The main road leading to the college's campus is named in his honor.

He received his Ph.D. in English from Yale University and then served as Professor of English on the faculty of Canisius College, a Jesuit college in Buffalo, NY, prior to his being chosen as president of The Evergreen State College.
