Charles J. Knapp

Charles Junius Knapp (June 30, 1845 - June 1, 1916) was a U.S. Representative from New York, son of Charles Knapp.

Born in Pepacton, New York, Knapp moved with his parents to Deposit, Delaware County, in 1848. He was graduated from Hamilton College, Clinton, New York, in 1866. He became engaged in banking with his father at Deposit, New York, in 1866. He served as president of the board of education for many years. He served on the board of supervisors of Delaware County in 1885 and 1886. He served as member of the State assembly 1886-1888.

Knapp was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-first Congress (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1891). He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1890. He moved to Binghamton, New York, and again engaged in banking. He died in that city June 1, 1916. He was interred in Laurel Bank Cemetery, Deposit, New York.
