[edit] Early life

Charles Coe was born in Bremerhaven, while his father, Lyle, was in the military. His mother Marguarite was a highschool graduate (and later a government worker). After his father's military career ended, the family settled in the poverty-stricken and crime-ridden Hollygrove section of New Orleans, Louisiana, which is part of the 17th Ward, where Charles' father left his mother to take care of two kids. His mother moved them from the Hollygrove section to Indianapolis, Indiana where he began to play basketball. He never got to start on any team because his mother's job had them moving from state to state. He moved back to the states to his father's house to go on and play for the Ben Davis High School basketball team.[5]
