On November 24, 2004, he was given a handgun by Specialist Rami Dajani and jokingly shot 28-year-old Iraqi Luma Hadi in the head, not realizing the gun was loaded. She had been working as an interpreter for the United States Army at Camp Liberty, Baghdad, Iraq. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years confinement and given a reduction in rank and bad conduct discharge.

The Washington Post reported that the United States Army paid the victim's family $25,000 in compensation for her death. [1]
