Charles Edward Swanson

Charles Edward Swanson (January 3, 1879 - August 22, 1970) was a U.S. Representative from Iowa.

Born on a farm near Galesburg, Illinois, SwansonIn 1890 moved to Iowa with his parents, who settled on a farm in Ringgold County. He attended the public schools of Galesburg, Illinois, and Clearfield, Iowa. He was graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, in 1902, and from the law department of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, in 1907. Principal of schools, Altona, Illinois from 1902 to 1904. He was admitted to the bar in 1907 and commenced practice in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He served as prosecuting attorney of Pottawattamie County, Iowa from 1915 to 1922.

Swanson was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-first and to the Seventy-second Congresses (March 4, 1929-March 3, 1933). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1932 to the Seventy-third Congress and for election in 1934 to the Seventy-fourth Congress. He resumed the practice of law. He served as chairman of the City Board of Tax Review from 1949 to 1968. He died in Council Bluffs, Iowa, August 22, 1970. He was interred in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
