Charles E. Johnson (businessman)

Charles E. Johnson (Chuck) is the Managing Director of Tano Capital LLC, and former co-president of Franklin Resources, Inc. ("Franklin Templeton Investments"; NYSE: "BEN"), the largest publicly traded money management firm in the world, currently with more than US $600 billion in assets under management. Johnson's responsibilities included global oversight of all portfolio management, information technology, product development, mergers and acquisitions and non-U.S. business. Prior to this, Johnson served as president and chief executive officer of Templeton Worldwide Inc. During his tenure, Templeton Worldwide's assets under management grew from US $16 billion to over US $100 billion.

Johnson began traveling to India in 1994, and started the Franklin Templeton India ("FT India") mutual fund company in 1996. FT India is now the largest domestic mutual fund manager in India, reaching over US $3.5 billion assets under local management in 2004 and growing rapidly.

Johnson received a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University Graduate School of Business in 1985, and a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA. Mr. Johnson is also certified as a CPA by the California State Board of Accountancy.
