[edit] History

Together with his partner, August Shoverling, and later Joseph Gales, formed a company Shoverling, Daly & Gales. They imported weapons through the 20th century, but in 1919 they sold to other owners, which started a long line of different leadership.

The new owners continued with the business model of importing firearms, but now did so under the label Charles Daly, a name that lives on today.

[edit] Current Ownership

Currently owned by K.B.I., Inc., is a firearms company originally founded in 1895 by Charles Daly in New York City . In stark contrast to other firearms companies, such as Remington, Winchester, and Smith and Wesson, Charles Daly has been since inception an importer, rather than manufacturer of firearms.

[edit] Past Owners

Through the years Henry Modell, Sloan's Sporting Good's, and Outdoor Sports owned the company, and even manufacturer of firearms Beretta have imported firearms under the Daly name.

In 1996, the latest owner, K.B.I., Inc. purchased the company and continues today to import high grade weapons. The company motto has grown into "The Shooting Sports Specialist".

[edit] Weapons Imported

The guns they import are of all varieties and styles:

  • Pistols [automatics and revolvers]
  • Rifles [bolt action and lever action]
  • Shotguns [over and under, side by side, pump action, and automatics]

[edit] Downgrade?

Until model year 2006-2007 the Daly shotguns were of very high caliber, imported from Italy, and had a good number of features, found mostly on higher priced guns. For example, a Superior II Over/under shotgun came with the following:

  • Ported barrels
  • barrel selected shooting
  • selected shot extractor
  • silver receiver
  • gold inlay
  • premium wood stock and for-end
  • hi viz target bead
  • 5 chokes and choke wrench

Purchased in March of 2006, this gun had an MSRP of $1100, which to a comparably outfitted Beretta was at least $900 less.

Currently this gun is out of import, and the new Daly shotguns have a maximum MSRP of less than $400.
