Charles Bennet, 6th Earl of Tankerville

Charles Augustus Bennet, 6th Earl of Tankerville, PC (London, 10 January 1810 – Chillingham Castle, 18 December 1899) was a British peer and Conservative politician, known from 1822–1876 as Lord Ossulston.

Bennet was the eldest son of the 5th Earl of Tankerville and of Armandine Corisande de Gramont, daughter of the French duke of Gramont and duke of Guiche. He was born at Charles Street, Berkeley Square, and educated at Harrow and Christ Church, Oxford. In 1832, he entered Parliament as MP for North Northumberland. He held this seat until 1859, when a writ of acceleration was created to call up Bennet to the House of Lords in his father's barony of Ossulston.

Lord Ossulston then served as Captain of the Gentlemen-at-Arms from 1866–67 and Lord Steward from 1867–68. On 29 January 1850, he had married at Kimbolton Castle, Huntingdonshire Lady Olivia Montagu (18 July 1830 – Greystones, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, 15 February 1922 and interred at Chillingham on 20 February 1922), the eldest daughter of the 6th Duke of Manchester. They had five children:

• Charles, Lord Ossulston (1850–1879), died of cholera in India.
• Hon. George Montagu (1852–1931)
• Hon. Frederick Augustus (1853–1891), died unmarried.
• Lady Corisande Olivia (died unmarried 1941)
• Lady Ida Louise (d. 1887), married the 13th Earl of Dalhousie.

Lord Ossulston succeeded to his father's earldom in 1876, died in 1899 at Chillingham Castle and was succeeded by his eldest son.
