Charles A. Zimmerman

Charles A. Zimmermann composed "Anchors Aweigh" in 1906. Zimmermann (1861-1916) was at the time a Lieutenant, and had been bandmaster of the United States Naval Academy Band since 1887. The lyrics were by Arthur Miles, a cadet. The song was originally written as a football marching song.

He composed numerous songs for The Wizard of Oz.
