Charla Doherty (August 6, 1946, Cleveland, Ohio – May 29, 1988, Calabasas, California) was an American actress who had short roles on Wagon Train and Dr. Kildare before originating the role of Julie Olson on the soap opera Days of our Lives. Doherty played the role from 1965 until she left the series in 1967. Doherty was replaced in the role by Kathy Dunn, who was in turn replaced by Catherine Ferrar before Susan Seaforth Hayes signed on to play the role long-term.
She also played the role of Nancy in the 1965 movie Village of the Giants.
She also directed and starred in local theater productions and was acitve in a non-profit group that fed the homeless.
Doherty died in 1988 at the age of 41. Recounts of her death vary. Some say it was due to injuries she sustained in a car accident. Others say that Charla died of "natural causes" at her mother's home in Woodland Hills, CA on May 29, 1988 at the age of 41. Another one is that her cause of death was listed as pancreatitis, due to chronic alcoholism.
She was survivied by a son, Trevor Black and her mother, Toni Doherty.
