Characters in the Resident Evil films
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a list of characters characters introduced in the Resident Evil film series. The original Resident Evil was not based on any particular game in the series and the cast was composed entirely of original characters made for the film. The sequels, Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction, borrow plot elements from the games and adapt established characters such as Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield.

[edit] Lisa Addison
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Lisa Addison | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil |
Portrayed By | Heike Makatsch |
Age | 40 |
Gender | Female |
Relations | Matt Addison (Brother) |
Current Status | Deceased |
Lisa Addison (played by Heike Makatsch) is the sister of environmentalist Matt Addison. Lisa was employed by the Umbrella Corporation in a secret underground facility called The Hive, but had a plan to smuggle out a sample of the T-virus, to expose Umbrella's secret experiments. Lisa was contacted by Alice prior to the outbreak and was given security codes and other material to execute the plan. These facts are revealed periodically throughout Resident Evil, via flashbacks.
In Resident Evil, when a sample of the T-Virus is released, the Red Queen seals The Hive and kills every inhabitant, including Lisa, with the halon firefighting system. When the Umbrella commando team shut down the Red Queen, it is discovered that all the former Hive employees have been turned into zombies. As a zombie, Lisa attacks Matt, but is killed by Alice before she can physically harm him.
[edit] Matthew "Matt" Addison
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Matt Addison | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil |
Portrayed By | Eric Mabius |
Age | 41 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Lisa Addison (Sister) |
Current Status | Deceased |
Matt Addison makes his first appearance in Resident Evil, played by Eric Mabius. Matt appears again in Resident Evil: Apocalypse as Nemesis, portrayed by Matthew G. Taylor under heavy prosthetics and make up. However, flashbacks used in Apocalypse show Mabius' portrayal of Matt as well.
[edit] Resident Evil
Matt is first introduced when he grabs Alice inside the Spencer Mansion. He claims to be a police officer working for the R.P.D. when he is apprehended by one of the masked Umbrella Corporation Commandos during a mission into The Hive. Both Alice and Matt are taken into the underground complex to investigate the source of the Red Queen's malfunction.
Matt is handcuffed and watched over by Rain and J.D. After the team finds themselves surrounded by legions of the undead Umbrella employees, Matt frees himself and leaves the group during the commotion in order to search for his sister Lisa Addison, a Hive employee working in the research facility to smuggle out a sample of the T-Virus. Matt discovers she has been turned into a zombie when she attacks him. Alice appears and kills Lisa. Matt explains that his story was a cover to gain access to the Hive and expose Umbrella's experiments. The remainder of the team attempt to escape the complex via train, however, before successfully escaping, the train is attacked by an Enhanced Licker, which scratches Matt's arm. After the creature is killed, only Matt and Alice escape the complex. Matt's arm begins to mutate due to an infection from the T-Virus, and before Alice has a chance to administer the Anti-Virus, Umbrella scientists seize both Alice and Matt. Dr. William Birkin orders that Matt be placed into the Nemesis program.
[edit] Resident Evil: Apocalypse
In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Matt is only shown through Alice's flashbacks. It is revealed that he was experimented on and as a direct result to the Nemesis Program, he has become Nemesis.
Nemesis is activated on the orders of Major Timothy Cain to be tested in combat during the zombie outbreak of Raccoon City. After he obtains weapons drop shipped at the hospital, Nemesis searches for other combatants. He first takes on the remaining S.T.A.R.S. under the orders of Cain, killing them all, but sparing one civilian, L.J., because he was not considered a threat. Alice and Nemesis finally meet and the first major battle ensues. Nemesis perceives her as a Moderate threat and attacks, but Alice draws him away from the other survivors and gets away relatively unscathed.
Towards the end of the film, Nemesis is ordered to fight Alice at the command of Cain, seemingly unaware of who she is. Nearing the end of the battle, Nemesis recalls the events in Resident Evil and comes to the aid of Alice. Before the nuclear strike of Raccoon City, he helps Alice fight against the Umbrella commandos. Nemesis is apparently killed when a shot-down helicopter crash-landed onto him.
In the novel adaptation of Apocalypse, it is revealed he is only incapacitated under the helicopter and that he wasn't killed until the nuclear strike occurred. Matt's consciousness had survived, but it struggles for control against Nemesis, which is portrayed as another consciousness with more control over his mutated body. He is helpless to stop Nemesis for most of the book. During the final battle with Alice, Matt attempts to regain control of his body by showing Nemesis his memories of Umbrella. This weakens Nemesis to the point that after he's impaled on a piece of metal, Matt regains control of his body, allowing him to assist Alice in her escape.
[edit] Angela Ashford
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Angela Ashford | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Apocalypse |
Portrayed By | Sophie Vavasseur |
Age | 10 |
Gender | Female |
Relations | Dr. Charles Ashford (Father) |
Current Status | Deceased (novel) |
Angela "Angie" Ashford (played by Sophie Vavasseur) is the daughter of the T-Virus creator Dr. Charles Ashford. She is based on the video game character Sherry Birkin from Resident Evil 2. The surname of Ashford is derived from the Ashford family that played a prominent role in the plot of Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Angela makes her first appearance in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, however, there is no mention of her in Resident Evil: Extinction, leaving her fate in the films unknown. The Red Queen, a holographic AI computer, from Resident Evil, was created by her father to bear a likeness to Angela.
[edit] Resident Evil: Apocalypse
In Apocalypse, it is explained that Angela has the same medical condition as her father, Dr. Charles Ashford, which would have resulted in spending the remainder of her life confined to a wheelchair. This is prevented, though when her father created the T-virus, which in most human beings would cause uncontrollable mutation. The reproduction of dead cells that the T-virus causes is enough to allow Angela to walk, if kept in check with regular injections of an anti-virus. Due to her father's high position within the Umbrella Corporation, Umbrella employees evacuate Angela and attempt to get her out of the city after the opening of The Hive releases a horde of infected. The attempt is unsuccessful, however, and it forces Dr. Ashford to find another way to retrieve her from the city before all evidence of the viral outbreak is destroyed with a nuclear weapon.
Angela's location is soon found by her father, who then proceeds to find other survivors in order to make a deal with them. Dr. Ashford finds the few remaining survivors, including: Alice, Jill Valentine, L.J. and Carlos Olivera. He explains he is capable of getting them out, but only if they retrieve Angela and bring her to him safely. Angela is eventually saved, and reunited with Dr. Ashford for a few moments before he is shot and killed by Major Timothy Cain. Angela leaves the city on an Umbrella helicopter, along with Alice, Jill, Carlos and L.J.. She is almost impaled by a metal shard that had detached from the helicopter's gun rack when the explosion of the nuclear weapon occurred, but is saved when Alice moves in front of the shard of metal, killing herself instead of Angela. She last appears in Apocalypse when Jill, Carlos and L.J. pose as covert Umbrella operatives in order to rescue a revived Alice from Umbrella's labs.
[edit] Resident Evil: Extinction
In the Resident Evil: Extinction film, Angela is no longer featured nor mentioned. In the novelization, however, it is revealed that Alice killed her while under the control of Doctor Issacs as a test of Alice's programming.
[edit] Dr. Charles Ashford
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Dr. Charles Ashford | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Apocalypse |
Portrayed By | Jared Harris |
Age | 46 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Angela Ashford (daughter) |
Current Status | Deceased |
Dr. Charles Ashford (played by Jared Harris) is a wheelchair-bound scientist employed by the Umbrella Corporation. He is the father of Angela Ashford, whom the holographic representation of the Red Queen is modeled after.
[edit] Resident Evil: Apocalypse
In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, it is shown that Dr. Ashford was responsible for the creation of the T-virus, which could revive dead or dying cells. He created it as a way of curing his daughter, Angela, of the affliction that kept him wheelchair-bound. Despite his intention of using the virus for medical purposes, the Umbrella took it away and began using it to develop viral weaponry. Dr. Ashford was also responsible for the construction of the Hive and was the programmer for the Red Queen, whose holographic representation he modeled after Angela.
During the zombie outbreak at Raccoon City, Dr. Ashford was among the many valuable employees whom Umbrella had evacuated before quarantining the city. His daughter was to be evacuated, but did not get out in time. Dr. Ashford defied Major Timothy Cain's orders and contacted numerous survivors, including Alice, Jill Valentine and Carlos Olivera, agreeing to help them escape the city in return for rescuing his daughter. Although they succeeded, Dr. Ashford was only afforded a brief reconciliation with his daughter before being killed by Major Cain. After Alice, Angela, and the rest of the survivors manage to escape on the helicopter, Dr. Ashford reanimates as a zombie and was among the undead who swarmed and killed the injured Cain.
[edit] Betty
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Betty | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Ashanti Shequoyia Douglas |
Age | 37 |
Gender | Female |
Relations | L.J. (intimate friends) |
Current Status | Deceased |
Betty (played by Ashanti) is a nurse in Claire Redfield's convoy of survivors. She only appears in Resident Evil: Extinction as the driver of the paramedic car in the convoy. She mostly tends to those who are wounded or ill. It is implied that she shares a romantic relationship with L.J., when she invites him in sharing dinner. When the convoy is attacked by crows infected with the virus, she goes to help those trapped in a school bus. Betty held the window closed as the others escaped, getting seriously injured while rescuing one last child. Once all the people had been transferred to another vehicle adjacent to the school bus, Betty closed the door in order to stop the crows from following, trapping herself inside. L.J. is physically, mentally and emotionally distraught and calls after Betty, who is then pecked to death by the crows.
[edit] Timothy Cain
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Timothy Cain | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Apocalypse |
Portrayed By | Thomas Kretschmann |
Age | 43 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Major Timothy Cain (played by Thomas Kretschmann) is the commander of Umbrella's military forces and the North American Division of Umbrella. He makes his only appearance in Resident Evil: Apocalypse as one of the main antagonists.
Major Cain originally came from Germany and had done an extended tour of duty with the US Army in the Middle East before employed by the Umbrella Corporation. His experiences with war and death had led him to believe that "life was cheap," and so he was known for treating his colleagues and subordinates coldly, all except for his old warbuddy who he hand-picked to lead the U.B.C.S.'s field operatives after his promotion.
When The Hive went offline, it was Cain who ordered an investigation and later the reopening of the facility. When the T-Virus escaped and spread among the population of Raccoon City, Cain was placed in charge of handling the situation. Cain ordered all of Umbrella's employees and their families to be evacuated, and sealed off Raccoon City by setting up a wall around the city. During the crisis, Cain ordered the initiation of the Nemesis Program, which he had worked on with Dr. Sam Isaacs.
Cain killed Dr. Ashford in an attempt to force Alice to fight Nemesis. After the survivors helping Alice had freed themselves and took off, she pushed him out of the evacuation helicopter. Cain injured his leg and the zombies closed in on him. He shot several of them, but when he realized that resistance was pointless and tried to shoot himself, he had no bullets left. He was eaten by a mob of zombies, the reanimated Ashford being the first to attack.
[edit] Chase
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Chase | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Linden Ashby |
Age | 50 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Chase (played by Linden Ashby) is first shown in Resident Evil: Apocalypse sitting on a roof shooting zombies. He saves L.J. from a zombie, narrowly missing L.J. Chase is a member of Claire Redfield's convoy and drives the gas tanker. In Resident Evil: Extinction, he is referred to by L.J. as a cowboy and also wears a cowboy hat through many parts of the film. Although not much is told of him, he appears to be the member of the convoy responsible for maintaining the gasoline. When searching for gasoline in Las Vegas, he acts as a sniper, climbing the Paris Las Vegas Hotel replica of the Eiffel Tower and shooting down the super zombies (Crimson Heads) when they suddenly emerge. At first, Chase goes unnoticed by the zombies, but when another member of the convoy begins to seek refuge on the tower, the zombies climb and follow. Chase helps the woman, but is himself overwhelmed by the zombies. Out of ammunition, unable to defend himself and bitten several times, he falls from the tower, taking the Crimson Heads with him, and lands on a metal beam below where the impact kills him.
[edit] Nicholai Ginovaef
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Nicholai Ginovaef | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Apocalypse |
Portrayed By | Zack Ward |
Age | 40 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Nicholai Ginovaef (played by Zack Ward) is a member of the U.B.C.S. He is based on the video game character of the same name in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. His character from the film and video game are significantly different, where in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, he is portrayed as heroic, openly displaying his dislike for Umbrella, while in the video game he is the cold cunning supervisor for Umbrella. His last name is spelled as "Ginovev" on television closed captions, "Ginovaef" in the credits, and "Sokolov" in the novelization. The official website also used "Sokolov" as his surname.
In Apocalypse, he is one of the few U.B.C.S. soldiers left in Raccoon City during the zombie outbreak, along with squad leader, Carlos Olivera, his comrade, Yuri Loginova, and other soldiers. He participates in a final stand on the Raccoon City streets, along with his squad and the remaining Police and S.T.A.R.S forces. Soon they are the only ones left and are overrun by the zombies, but are able to escape into the alleys. After Yuri is bitten, Nicholai and Carlos take him to a hospital, thinking that they may finally be rescued. Yuri turns into a zombie and bites Carlos' arm, but before he could attack again, Nicholai kills him. Later Nicholai and Carlos make a deal with Umbrella scientist Doctor Charles Ashford, who, in exchange for finding his daughter, Angela Ashford, he will aid them in an escape. Nicholai and Carlos head to Angela's school and split up to quickly find her. Nicholai meets Jill Valentine and Angela, after saving them from zombie dogs, who was also at the school to find Angela. After introducing himself, he is attacked by a zombie dog. He tells Jill to leave and protect Angela, but just as she leaves, another dog appears and aids the first in killing Nicholai.
[edit] Dr. Isaacs
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Dr. Isaacs | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Apocalypse |
Portrayed By | Iain Glen |
Age | 45 46 (Extinction) |
Gender | Male |
Relations | None |
Current Status | Deceased |
Dr. Isaacs (played by Iain Glen) is a scientist employed by Umbrella. The character of Dr. Isaacs was named after the actor Jason Isaacs, who was originally considered for the role and provided a voice over narration in Resident Evil. At the time, Isaacs' role was credited as "Dr. William Birkin/Narrator", and after he could not make an appearance in Apocalypse, Iain Glen was brought in. The character was then changed to Dr. Isaacs. There is a bit of controversy over the name of the character. In Resident Evil: Extinction the shots of Issacs in the maze identify him as Doctor J. Issacs. The novelization of the film identifies him as Sam Issacs.
First introduced briefly at the end of Resident Evil: Apocalypse as a scientist who was involved in the creation of the Nemesis Program with Major Timothy Cain, after Dr. Birkin was removed from the project. His role broadens in Resident Evil: Extinction when he becomes the main antagonist of the film, mutating into a Tyrant.
[edit] Resident Evil: Apocalypse
In Apocalypse Isaacs was head of a team of scientists at the Raccoon City Hospital who experimented on Alice. After the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City, he continued further experimentation at a separate Umbrella laboratory, giving her a variety of telekinetic and super-human abilities. After Alice's escape, Isaacs activated "Program Alice", putting her under Umbrella's control.
[edit] Resident Evil: Extinction
In Extinction, Dr. Isaacs has replaced Timothy Cain as North American Operations Director and is Head of Umbrella Sciences Division, all under the order of Umbrella chairman Albert Wesker. He has been tasked with finding a cure to the zombie plague that has swept the globe. Using blood samples from Alice, Dr. Isaacs and his team of scientists were able to create over one hundred clones of Alice for further experimentation. Through tests of survival, many of the clones have failed to live up to the expectations of the original Alice. Dr. Isaacs defies orders against his second in command, Captain Alexander Slater, and Wesker. During one of the holographic meetings with the Umbrella executives, Dr. Isaac records Wesker's voice, and edits the recording so Isaacs would have the spoken order allowing him the resources to go after Alice and capture her. Using his newly created Super-Undead against Alice and her friends, Isaacs is bitten by one of them and retreats back to the Umbrella base - an underground outpost similar to The Hive. To prevent further infection of the T-virus, he attempts to use the anti-virus to cure himself and injects himself with multiple vials of the serum. He is then shot by Slater following orders from Wesker; however, Isaacs survives and kills his second-in-command with his mutated hand, stabbing him through the eyes and mouth, then proceeding to kill everyone at the base.
Isaacs, due to the increased infection from the bite and the anti-virus, mutates into a Tyrant- like creature. As this creature, he has the ability to rapidly heal his wounds. He is also able to use a stronger version of Alice's "telekinesis." He is killed by Alice, after being lead into a replica of the security corridor leading to the Red Queen's Chamber from the original Hive facility as part of Project: Alice's training. The laser grid activates and kills him, as it did to One in the first film.
[edit] Chad Kaplan
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Chad Kaplan | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil |
Portrayed By | Martin Crewes |
Age | 42 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Chad Kaplan (played by Martin Crewes) was the computer expert and the inexperienced rookie of the team. The novelization of the film gives Kaplan's first name as Bart, and expands somewhat on his backstory. It is said he is a former FBI computer technician who was recruited into Umbrella to do field work. Also said is that Kaplan was one of the few people who knew his superior, One's, real name.
In Resident Evil, he is physically distraught after One, the medic, and two other team members were killed, leaving only him to complete the team's task in shutting down the Red Queen. After the survivors are led by the Red Queen into the Hive's service tunnels, Kaplan is separated from the main group.
He manages to survive on his own, and rejoins them just in time to let Alice, Matt, and Rain out of a sealed lab. In the novel, it is explained that he backtracked along the pipes until he came to an air vent which he climbed out through. He is killed by the Licker as the group attempts to escape the Hive via train. He is the second to last Umbrella agent to be killed in the film.
[edit] K-Mart
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
K-Mart; Dahlia (novel) | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Spencer Locke |
Age | 16 (novel) |
Gender | Female |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Alive |
K-Mart (played by Spencer Locke) is a young woman in Claire Redfield's convoy. In Resident Evil: Extinction, K-Mart explains that she changed her name after Claire and the others had found her in a K-Mart store. She states she did not like her name and decided to change it because all those she knew from before the outbreak were dead. In the novel, her name is revealed, by Carlos and confirmed by K-Mart, to be Dahlia.
During the events of the film, K-Mart is shown riding in the vehicle with Claire, whom Locke says she has a big sister relationship with. K-Mart is also close with Carlos Olivera, (in the novelization and in the film's deleted scene, it is stated she has a crush on him) and Mikey as she is clearly distraught at both of their deaths. K-Mart bonds with Alice as well, giving her a bracelet and in the beginning of the film, explaining her name. Locke describes this as more of a mother-daughter relationship and that K-Mart "definitely look[s] up to Alice in this movie a lot."[1]
K-Mart survives through most of the film by hiding in the vehicles, although she does kill a few zombies. In a zombie attack, she is nearly killed by L.J. who has turned into a zombie himself, but is saved by Carlos. At the end, she is one of the few who survive long enough to depart in a helicopter piloted by Claire on the way to Alaska.
[edit] Mikey
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Mikey | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Chris Egan |
Age | 31 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Claire Redfield (sister) |
Current Status | Deceased |
Mikey (played by Chris Egan) is electronics expert and the driver of the "computer station" portion of Claire Redfield's convoy.
In Resident Evil: Extinction, Mikey is shown being of Australian descent, having an Australian accent. He drives a former News Station van in which he has set up a variety of computers, including a radio broadcast machine. He is shown throughout the beginning of the film sending out broadcasts telling of the location of the convoy and asking for survivors to state their location. Later in the film when a battle ensues between the super zombies (Crimson Heads), created from Alice's blood, and the convoy, Mikey is one of the members to fight. He is jumped by a zombie, but Claire saves him. Shortly afterwards, he is ambushed by three more and Claire becomes physically upset trying to save him. She kills the zombies, but Mikey is already dead; Claire screams in distress, and this begins to wake Alice from the Umbrella-induced control she is under.
In the novelization, he is secretly in love with Claire, but this is not fully explored in the film. Mikey, however, does call Claire sweetheart in one instance.
[edit] Terri Morales
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Terri Morales | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Apocalypse |
Portrayed By | Sandrine Holt |
Age | 41 |
Gender | Female |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Terri Morales (played by Sandrine Holt) is the meteorologist for Raccoon City's Channel 7.
In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Terri Morales was, according to deleted scenes, originally an anchor for Raccoon 7. In the novel adaptation, it was explained that she exposed a politician's crookedness without any sources to back up her claim, to which she had been demoted; after her position was given to someone else, Terri was reassigned to the meteorology department. According to Sony's Apocalypse website, Terri was about to be approached by the Umbrella corporation for a position in their public relations department at the time of the Raccoon City outbreak.
During the viral outbreak in the city, Terri video taped the events as they emerged. Terri later on joined S.T.A.R.S. members Jill Valentine and Peyton Wells. When hiding out in a church, Terri expressed her interest of winning an Emmy for the video tape. Afterwards, Terri was involved in the rescue of Angela Ashford. While searching Angela's school, Terri was taken by surprise, overrun and eaten alive by a mob of zombie children. Her video camera captured her final moments, which mirrored the deaths of Joseph Frost and Kenneth Sullivan in the video game Resident Evil.
[edit] Rain Ocampo
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Rain Ocampo | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil |
Portrayed By | Michelle Rodriguez |
Age | 38 |
Gender | Female |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Rain Ocampo (played by Michelle Rodriguez) is one of only two female members of One's commando team. She was the group's most skilled marksman, and had at least one close friend in J.D. Salinas. In the novelization, Rain's last name is given as Melendez and it is revealed that she joined Umbrella after her sex had resulted in her failure to be a member of any other SWAT team; this was similar to a later role of actress Rodriguez in the movie S.W.A.T.
In Resident Evil, Rain was able to get the train into the Hive working, and held Matt Addison prisoner. Shortly after, Rain, J.D., and Matt Addison were attacked by a horde of zombies while waiting for their teammates. Rain was bitten on the hand, thus becoming infected with the T-Virus, and she sustained more bites over the course of the film, speeding up the rate of infection. When trapped in a sealed room, the Red Queen informed the survivors that Rain would have to be killed, because of the infection, in order to let the rest of them go. Alice refused and although Rain was injected with the anti-virus, she transformed into a zombie aboard the escape train. Presumably the infection had simply progressed too far at that point to be cured, and thus Matt was forced to shoot her in the head.
[edit] Carlos Olivera
- Further information: Carlos Oliveira
[edit] Otto
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Otto | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Joe Hursley |
Age | 22 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | |
Current Status | Deceased |
Otto (played by Joe Hursley) is a member of Claire Redfield's convoy and drives the school bus. The school bus portion of the convoy appears to be the vehicle responsible for the transportation of the younger children and is fitted with bunks as well. In Resident Evil: Extinction, Otto is shown passing out food to the convoy, being able to identify the contents of the cans by merely shaking the object. Shortly after, when infected crows attack the convoy, he attempts to drive the school bus out, but the windshield's view is obstructed by the birds and he crashes the vehicle into a pole. He and Nurse Betty stay behind to hold up the broken windshield to block the birds from entering the bus, allowing the others to leave as he stayed behind. The crows are able to get through eventually however, and he is killed.
He was named after Otto the busdriver from The Simpsons.
[edit] Spencer Parks
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Spence Parks | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil |
Portrayed By | James Purefoy |
Age | 45 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Alice (Former Wife) |
Current Status | Deceased |
Percival Spence Parks (played by James Purefoy) is a security operative placed at The Hive by the Umbrella Corporation to protect its main entrance.
In Resident Evil, he is first introduced on the underground train to The Hive. At first unconscious, his symptoms seem to be the same as Alice, who was suffering from the effects of a nerve gas released in the Spencer Mansion. They are taken in with the team, who were sent to investigate the reason the Red Queen and is told who he truly is. Spence is told that he is a Security Operative placed at the mansion and that his revealed marriage to Alice was a fake, only created to protect his cover at The Hive.
While in the Hive, Spence follows the orders of the commando team and throughout the events in The Hive, Alice began seeing flashbacks of Spence and their life before. It is revealed that, Spence had planned to steal the T-Virus and sell it on the black market, but he partially did this for Alice as well. Even though their marriage was cover for their true identities, it is revealed that they had a romantic relationship. It is also revealed that Spence was the man who unleashed the T-Virus in the beginning sequence in the film, to cover up his theft.
Taking a cynical good-bye from them, Spence leaves Alice and the other survivors locked in the virus lab and heads for the train, on which he has hidden the samples for both the virus and the anti-virus. On the way to the train, he is attacked by the Licker, set loose by the Red Queen. As the survivors make it back to the train, he revives and tries to attack Alice, but is too severely injured to stand upright. Returning his cynical goodbye, Alice takes an axe and kills the zombie Spence with one swift blow to the head. She takes off her wedding ring and drops it next to his corpse.
[edit] Claire Redfield
- Further information: Claire Redfield
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Claire Redfield | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Ali Larter |
Age | 39 |
Gender | Female |
Relations | Chris Redfield (novel) (brother) |
Current Status | Alive |
Claire Redfield (played by Ali Larter) is the leader of a convoy of survivors. She is based on the video game character of the same name that appears in the games Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica. The game version of Claire is a young tomboy college student, and biker who was one of the main survivors of the Raccoon City incident; she traveled there to find her brother Chris Redfield who was a S.T.A.R.S. officer. Fangoria magazine reported that in the film, Claire would be in search for her brother in Alaska. The film, however makes no references that would confirm or deny a similar past to that of the game, or the existence of her brother. In the actual movie itself, Claire is against the idea of going to Alaska.
Larter had no previous knowledge of Claire, nor had she played the games or seen the previous films. She accepted the role citing Claire's strong will and her liking of portraying strong female characters. Larter explains on her character Claire, "She became the leader of this convoy. She's incredibly strong, patient. I think she serves a role for everyone within this convoy, let it be a mother to someone, a buddy, a best friend."[2] The naturally blond Larter dyed her hair a light strawberry red to more closely match Claire's even though the game character's hair is auburn. Unlike the videogame counterpart Ali Larter's hair was not tied in a ponytail nor does she wear any colorful biker attire or travel on a motorcycle. The character of Claire in the movie did not exist in the early draft scripts for the film and previously Jill Valentine (who appeared in Resident Evil: Apocalypse played by Sienna Guillory) would continue the role in Extinction. Later producers Paul W.S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt decided to have a separate game character appear alongside the previous film's lead Alice (played by Milla Jovovich), saying, "We thought, rather than bring Jill back, put her with another game heroine."[2]
In Resident Evil: Extinction, Claire leads a convoy of survivors, alongside Carlos Olivera, after the T-virus has overtaken most of the world's people. In the novelization, Claire organized the Convoy after being rescued by Carlos Olivera and L.J from a group of the undead. Claire leads the survivors across the Nevada desert, to Las Vegas and eventually to reach sanctuary in Alaska. At the end of the film, she and the remaining members of the convoy depart in an Umbrella helicopter (which she pilots) towards Alaska; it is unknown if she succeeds in her journey.

Portrayed By | Colin Salmon |
Age | 44 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
James "One" Shade (played by Colin Salmon) was the leader of the commando team. He was quiet and businesslike and to nearly everyone, he was known as "One." Shortly into the film, One and a few of his team members were trapped in the laser room. He had survived most of the lasers, but was killed when the lasers formed an unavoidable laser grid, cutting him into pieces. His last word, before being sliced was, "Shit."
[edit] Slater
Resident Evil film character | |
---|---|
Alexander Slater | |
First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Matthew Marsden |
Age | 40 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Alexander Slater (played by Matthew Marsden) was the young chief of security at Umbrella's Nevada-based underground laboratory, serving under Dr. Sam Isaacs. He was openly critical of Isaacs and Isaacs' dislike of Chairman Wesker. After Isaacs openly defied Wesker and forged an order to Slater's men to accompany him on a mission to recapture Alice that ended badly with Isaacs being bitten by a zombie, Slater placed the infected scientist under house arrest upon his return. He then reported directly to Wesker and was told to terminate Dr. Isaacs. Accompanied by two guards, Slater found Isaacs in his lab and attempted to execute him by shooting him in the chest. Isaacs fell, but as Slater turned to order the guards to dispose of the corpse, Isaacs sprang back to life. One of the guards tried to warn Slater, but it was too late, and Isaacs mutated into a Tyrant-like creature and killed Slater by shooting tentacles from his fingers that inserted themselves into Slater's face.

First Appearance | Resident Evil: Apocalypse |
Portrayed By | Mike Epps |
Age | 42 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Betty (implied girlfriend) |
Current Status | Deceased |
Lloyd Jefferson Wade or L.J. (played by Mike Epps) serves as the comic relief in the movie. L.J. is a taxi driver (a hustler according to the Resident Evil: Extinction novel) who got arrested during the outbreak of the T-virus in Raccoon City for as yet unspecified reasons. The novelization claims that L.J. was initially arrested for a Pyramid Scheme in which he involved his own mother.
[edit] Resident Evil: Apocalypse
He is first shown in Apocalypse, handcuffed next to a zombie prostitute at the police station, saved by Jill Valentine, who shoots the zombies and then shoots his handcuffs, releasing him and advising him to leave town. Later on traveling the city in his Cadillac, he crashes his car at the sight of zombified strippers, and was forced to flee on foot. Walking alone he was saved by a S.T.A.R.S. sniper positioned on the rooftop of an abandoned store. Joining the S.T.A.R.S. who had holed up in the building, L.J. witnessed the first deployment of Nemesis, who killed the S.T.A.R.S. members but left L.J. alive as the Nemesis's main operative was to kill all S.T.A.R.S. members. He was considered a "minimal" threat until he dropped his custom made golden Desert Eagles, which meant he wasn't a threat at all.
Later on, L.J. ran into Jill and Terri Morales and joined them in their search for Angela Ashford. At Angela's school, he is saved by U.B.C.S agent Carlos Oliveira from a zombie, who after killing the corpse later joins the group. L.J. then assists in their escape from Raccoon City as a nuclear strike by Umbrella was finalized. After the events at Raccoon city L.J, along with Carlos, Jill, and Angela rescued Alice from Umbrella's Headquarters.
[edit] Resident Evil: Extinction
Mike Epps returned as L.J. in Resident Evil: Extinction as a member of Claire Redfield's convoy, traveling through Nevada, and eventually to Las Vegas. Along with Carlos from the previous film, he is the only other survivor from Raccoon City. The novelization and film implies a romantic relationship with Betty, a nurse in the convoy from whom he hides an infected bite not long after he clears a motel for zombies.
Early in the film, Carlos and L.J. search in an abandoned motel for gas, food and supplies but L.J. is attacked by zombies and is bitten severely; however, Carlos manages to help him in time, before he is bitten further. Afterwards, L.J. doesn't tell Betty and other members of the convoy that he has been infected. The convoy is then attacked by infected crows the next morning. L.J and Betty attempt to help those trapped in a school bus, but Betty stays behind to hold the windows and keep the crows from getting in the bus. She then saves the last child and passes him to L.J. When the crows finally break in, Betty tells L.J. to leave, and he is physically and mentally distraught when she is pecked to death. Arriving in Las Vegas, a horde of zombies attack and L.J. transforms during the ensuing battle, shortly after saving K-Mart and Carlos' lives. L.J. tries to bite K-Mart, but Carlos intervenes. L.J. manages to bite Carlos before his former friend shoots a bullet into his head.
In the book, it states that L.J. knew he was going to die but wanted to kill as many zombies as possible before it happened.

Age | 43 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Deceased |
Peyton Wells (played by Razaaq Adoti) is a member of the S.T.A.R.S. team. Wells is a very close friend of Jill Valentine and the only S.T.A.R.S. member who supported her when she made claims about monsters living in the Arklay Mountains. Wells bears a strong resemblance to Kenneth Sullivan, a member of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team from the video game Resident Evil.
In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Wells assisted members of the U.B.C.S. and the Raccoon City Police Department on the Raven's Gate Bridge in an effort to keep the infected citizens contained within Raccoon City. He was bitten trying to hold a zombie down, who bit him on the leg.
Wells, along with Jill and Terri Morales, hid in a church. After surviving an encounter with Lickers in a church, he continued in a mission to find Angela Ashford, but he was shot down by Nemesis. He was later reanimated by the T-Virus, attacking Jill and Terri while they were hot wiring a car; Jill shot him in the head.

First Appearance | Resident Evil: Extinction |
Portrayed By | Jason O'Mara |
Age | 38 |
Gender | Male |
Relations | Unknown |
Current Status | Alive |
Albert Wesker (played by Jason O'Mara) is the Chief of the Umbrella Corporation. He is based on the video game character of the same name that is the primary antagonist of the series, and has appeared or been mentioned in most of the Resident Evil games. The video game version of the character is often referred to as simply Wesker, while in the film he is the head of the Umbrella corporation and therefore referred to as Chairman Wesker. According to the novelization by Keith R.A. DeCandido, Wesker is described as being a former Marine with facial scars from his time in the service.
Resident Evil: Extinction producer Paul Anderson stated a character from the earlier games would appear and during the Game Head special, it was confirmed that Albert Wesker would make an appearance. The character had been speculated to appear by fans since 2005, when Sony purchased the rights from Capcom to use the character.[3]
He is shown in person only in the film Resident Evil: Extinction, as the Chief of the Umbrella corporation, but it is implied that he had been in the position through the events of both Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. During the events of Extinction, he heads the corporation from an office in Tokyo, Japan and participates in holographic meetings with the other Umbrella executives from the different countries. He orders Dr. Isaacs to create a cure for the T-Virus outbreak, and later orders the death of the scientist when Isaacs defies his direct orders. Wesker leaves the second in command of the North American branch, Alexander Slater, in charge. When Isaacs mutates into a Tyrant and kills all employees in the North American facility, Wesker decides to control future scientific experimentation from his Japanese facility. At the end of the film, Alice interrupts a holographic meeting with Wesker and the executives, stating that she is coming for them and bringing an army of her clones.
In July 2005, the producers openly discussed the possibility of following Extinction with a fourth film. In an article published in 2006, details were revealed the film would take place in Tokyo, Japan and that Alice would be returning.[4]
