This is a list of characters from the American animated television series My Little Pony. Many of these characters also feature in My Little Pony: The Movie.

[edit] Regular cast
The My Little Pony animated series featured a cast based on My Little Pony toys released in 1986. The show starred a vast assortment of ponies with silky or curly manes and bows in their tails that came in all colors of the rainbow. Characters would typically alternate between starring roles and cameo appearances in various episodes.
Many of the series regulars were introduced in previous My Little Pony serials:

- Escape From Catrina: Heart Throb and Surprise (pegasi); Lickety-Split, Posey and Sundance (earth ponies); the Bushwoolies

- Megan: A young American girl, she's in between 12 and 14 years old and the eldest of three children. She and her siblings live on a ranch where she keeps a horse, TJ, and a bull, Tauro. Gentle and motherly, but also mature and resourceful, she acts as the Little Ponies' leader, and in times of crisis the ponies often fly across the rainbow to find her. Voiced by Tammy Amerson (movie), Bettina Bush (series).
- Danny: Megan's younger brother (around 10 years old), a rambunctious and good-hearted redhead. Sometimes found leading the charge when a situation calls for reckless action. Voiced by Scott Menville.
- Molly: Megan and Danny's youngest sister (around 8 years old), she's often scared around monsters, but never too scared to fight with Danny. Voiced by Keri Houlihan.

Unicorns' magic horns enable them to 'wink in and out' (teleport) and grant a unique magic power. Pictured are Fizzy and Galaxy.

The rivers of Ponyland are inhabited by brightly colored musical fish with a love of underwater polo and elaborate song and dance numbers. Each Baby Sea Pony wears a colored float shaped like an aquatic animal. Episodes in which they have major roles include The Ghost of Paradise Estate, Sweet Stuff and the Treasure Hunt, The Magic Coins and Baby, It's Cold Outside. Pictured is Ripple (without her float). Beachcomber may be considered an extra who never speaks.

As well as many returning characters from the first series, My Little Pony Series 2 introduced several new characters corresponding to toys released in 1987. Many of these only made a single appearance.

The Princess Ponies live near the Heart of Ponyland on a remote island, and use their wands to maintain the balance of Ponyland's magic. They each have a jewelled symbol and wear a tall princess hat. They appeared in The Quest of the Princess Ponies. Princess Tiffany is the best-known out of these.

The Big Brother Ponies were the only males in Dream Valley, and are all earth ponies. They return from a year-long race around the world at the beginning of Somnambula. They have hairy hooves (like Shires) and wear bandanas. Oddly enough, Quarterback is referred to as Score.

[edit] First Tooth Babies and Newborn Twins
In The Ice Cream Wars and The Prince and the Ponies, a group of baby ponies who've each just grown their first tooth are given the task of babysitting two sets of twins. Baby Lickety-Split also features, as a new toy version with a first tooth had been released. Except for Lickety-Split and North Star, none of the First Tooth Baby Ponies' mothers appeared in the series. No baby unicorns ever grew a first tooth.
