Chappell's was a family-owned department store chain based in Syracuse, New York.

[edit] History

Chappell's was eventually purchased by Bon-Ton, and the stores carried the Bon-Ton name. However, many of the former Chappell's locations retain much of their interior layout and decor.

Their philosophy was "Personally Yours" and they were a favorite by retail shoppers for their yellow trademark gift boxes.

The company was active in the community, for example, customers could receive a discount for a woman's coat as a donation to Vera House and decorating a holiday tree with Barbie Dolls and accessories to raise monies in a silent auction and Barbie did carry a yellow gift box at the top of the tree. They also provided free gift wrapping with their signature gold wrapping paper and an annual scholarship award for a college student who worked for the company.

Chappell's Department Stores were known as the "Friendliest Stores."
