Chapi Chapo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chapi Chapo is a French short stop-motion series. Created by Italo Bettiol and Stephano Lonati, with music by François De Roubaix, it premiered in 1974 on the ORTF and ran for 60 5-minute episodes.
The show aired on American television in the 1980s as part of Nickelodeon's Pinwheel.
It was named "Chapi Chapo" as a play-on-words with the French word, chapeaux, which means "hats". Both of the main characters wore oversized hats that matched their clothing. It is a misnomer that the show was so named because the girl was named "Chapi" and the boy, "Chapo".

The lyrics were a combination of French and nonsense words.
Chapi Chapo patapo
Chapo Chapi patapi
Piripipi rabada dada
Dada dada
Pacha pacho pitipo
Pacho pacha pitipa
Piripipi rabada dida
Devinez qui est Chapi
Devinez qui est Chapo
Qui de nous deux est Chapi, Chapo
Celle toute en rouge c’est Chapi
Celui en bleu c’est Chapo
Mais nous sommes comme deux jumeaux…
In 2007, a band called Chapi Chapo & les petites musiques de pluie ("Chapi-Chapo and wee music for rainy times") recorded an album entitled Ar mizioù du ("Black words" in Breton), released by Error!Lofi-recordings and My Little Cab. The album is available for listening online at the band's website (http://chapimusic.free.fr). While not a cover of the original music by François de Roubaix, it is an homage to his work and uses toy versions of musical instruments as a reference to childhood and the Chapi-Chapo series.
