Chaos - The Gaming Carnival is held at IIT Roorkee during the annual technical festival COGNIZANCE. It is the largest LAN gaming event of India conducted by the students of IIT Roorkee.

[edit] History

Chaos was the brainchild of a group of misguided souls in their 3rd year at IIT Roorkee who apparently had nothing better to do. Tired of their inaction they decided to put forth their massive dormant energies for the emancipation of the oppressed gaming community in IIT Roorkee. Little did they know that it would usher in a revolution for the underground gaming scene and would provide a common banner for gamers to unite.

The first Chaos struck in 2005 with ATI as the main sponsor of the event along with MSI, AMD and Sahara Computers. The first ever Chaos Arena consisted of 60 high end gaming machines and had gamers from different colleges competing in the first of its kind event in IIT Roorkee. The event was highly successful and managed to establish itself as one of the biggest college gaming tournament in India.

In 2006, Chaos returned on a much larger scale with sponsors like Intel and Xenitis adding to those of the previous year and having bigger and better prizes. The event saw, for the first time professional gaming clans participating in a college event, raising the quality of participation and gaming as a whole. It also had guest lectures by top executives of Intel and ATI.

The trend for exponential growth continued in 2007 with sponsors like NVIDIA, Asus and Intex being associated with Chaos. The event saw a participation of more than 1500 gamers from across the country. Chaos took a bold step forward by organizing a guest lecture by Mr. Paul Steed (creator of art work for games like Doom, Wing Commander etc.) on game development and emerging trends in the gaming industry.
