Chang Jiang (motorcycle)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chang Jiang (simplified Chinese: 长江; traditional Chinese: 長江; pinyin: Cháng Jiāng) is the transcripted brand name of motorcycles and scooters manufactured by Nanchang Aircraft Factory in Nanchang, China. Motorworks should be dropped from the page title as it is not appropriate.

This company is not the same as Qian Jiang Group Co., Ltd. (simplified Chinese: 钱江; pinyin: Qián Jiāng), another motocycle maker based in Wenlin/Zhejiang Province in China that produces Keeway branded vehicles.

The company is most famous for the CJ-750, which is based on the 1941-1956 Soviet IMZ Irbitski Mototsikletniy Zavod M-72 motorcycle (that, in turn was based on the 1938-1941 BMW R 71 sidecar motorcycle).

The Chang Jiang 750 motorcycle was produced in China starting in 1957. It was produced originally for the Chinese military and used an opposed four stroke flat twin cylinder engine displacing 750cc.

There were actually several companies making the Chang Jiang motorcycle besides Chang Jiang.[citation needed]

[edit] Modern production

Currently, Chang Jiang also makes single cylinder two and four stroke motorcycles and lookalike scooters (copying Vespa and Honda)

Today, there are many Chang Jiang motorcycles being used in China. A small number are being restored from old parts and exported.
