Chandio

Chandio (Urdu: چانڈیو) is a Baloch tribe in Sindh, Pakistan. The Chandio people are rare in the Balochistan region and are now settled near Gawadar. There are many internal tribes of Chandio, like Husnani, Ghaibiani, Marfani, Choliyani, Bangulani, Misrani, Qambrani.

The origins of the tribe began with a man named Aurdghani Kurd Baloch, who migrated from Kurdistan. He had 14 sons, including one named Chand. Chand had three sons, each of whom had his own children. One of the sons called his children Lighari, but the other two chose Chand's name for their children. These were the namesakes of the famous Chandios.

The region where this family lived was called Chandkaregion, which is in the Qambar-Shahdadkot & Larkana districts. The family later spread throughout the Sindh region. The Chandio tribe is now spread out over Pakistan with a concentration in Sindh.

The British government later "disabled" the status of the Chandka region.

Chandio's oldest base village is Ghaibi Dero in the Kamber Shahdadkot district. Another influential village is Rais Bhanbho Khan Chandio near Taluka Miro Khan.

The Kamber Shahdadkot and Larkana districts surround Chandio.

According to a survey of the Sindh Qaumi Welfare Association, the Chandio tribe has a population of over 6 million people who live in various parts of the world. District Larkana, District Kamber Shahdadkot, District Nawabshah and District Khairpur Mirs are the most populated vicinities of Sindh. The Chandio community is settled in Siraiki Belt of Punjab like Multan etc.

There are many internal tribes of Chandio and others named under the Chandios which are not actually part of the tribe, like Totani.

Janwari is a break away sub-clan of Chandio, which established a separate tribe.

Ghaibi Khan Chandio was the Chief of Chandio. Bhanbho Khan Chandio and later on Sultan Ahmed Chandio were the key influential leaders among the top level Chandio.

Presently,Nawab Shabir Ahmed Chandio is the Chief of Chandio.

There are many other influential personalities of Chandio, like Rais Tharo Khan Chandio, Rais Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Rais Hakim Ali Chandio, Rais Khuda Dino Chandio, Rais Qaiser Khan Chandio, who are of most respectable persons to the Chandio community.
