Maharaja Chandan (Bengali: মহারাজ চন্দন (c. 1483 – 1523 ruled: 1510-1522) was the first king of Kamata-Koch kingdom. From the time Maharaja Chandan was enthroned (ie. 1510 AD or 917 of the Bengali calendar) the calculation of Cooch Behar Rajshak (royal calendar year) started. Under the rule of Maharaja Chandan many small Bhuiyans were defeated. Along with Kamatapur, Maharaja Chandan invaded small surrounding territories and brought those lands under his rule. He died in 1523 A.D. at the age of 40 after having ruling for 13 years.
