Chance Bateman (born June 21, 1981) is an Australian rules football player for the Hawthorn Football Club of the AFL. He is known for his fast and aggressive midfield play. 'Changa', as he is known to the fans as, is of Aboriginal descent.
He has been crippled by injuries in recent years, but in 2006 managed to play 21 games and came 12th in the Best and Fairest. Chance Bateman is known for his trademark dreadlocks. Chance Bateman is one of Hawthorn's most valuable players. His speed and hardness at the ball while playing on the wing allows the team to play a free flowing brand of game. He averaged 20 possessions a game in his 21 games in 2006 and is hitting top form just before the 2007 season.
His elite speed was recognised and was named in the 2006 International Rules Series side to tour Ireland.
