From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Champertors, in the words of the statute 33 Edw. I, are "they who move pleas or suits, or cause them to be moved, either by their own procurement or others; and sue them at their proper costs, to have part of the land in variance, or part of the gains; against whom lies a writ of champerty."
