Chamisso Island

Chamisso Island is a small island in the Kotzebue Sound, Alaska. It is located off Spafarief Bay at the mouth of Eschscholtz Bay, just south of the Choris Peninsula. 66°13′N, 161°49′W.

The island is roughly triangular. Its length is 2.3 Km and its maximum width 1.4 Km. The highest point on Chamisso Island is 69 m above sea level.

Chamisso Island is a Natural Reserve since December 7, 1912. The protected area includes Chamisso Island and nearby Puffin Island, as well as some rocky islets nearby.[1]

This island was named after naturalist Adelbert von Chamisso, who traveled in the Pacific in 1836.
