Chalissery

Chalissery is a village situated at the border of Thrissur and Palakkad districts. Chalissery is located 10 km from Kunnamkulam. It is a hilly region with herbs, fruits, valleys and brooks. Chalissery is bordered by the villages, Kadavallur of Thrissur District and Alumkode of Malappuram District. It comes under the Thrithala block with Mr. T.P.Kunhunni as the Legislative Assembly representative, while the Parliament's representative is Mr. Ajay Kumar (Ottapalam).

Chalissery has a rich culture and history. It also served as a famous trading center and its Angadi (market) flourished in past with Betel nuts along with nearby Pazhanji market. Some of the other major nearby attractions include a Shiva Temple and the ruins of a mud fort situated near Thrithala.

Chalissery is also famous for its religious harmony that exists among the people. Arecanut and coconut plantations are the major cultivations. It also cultivates rice and plantain. Mulayam Parambu Bhagavati Temple situated here is one of the famous temples, situated adjacent to the Main Road. Numerous marriages are conducted often and February is the Pooram festival with caprisoned tuskers numbering around 50 or more. The Ambalaparambu (Temple Ground) hosts at times sevens football matches and serves as Drivers' Learning ground.

The Angadi has lost its business out as the main state highway has become more developed and all the major traders have shifted to the Coimbatore - Guruvayoor Highway. The region is called Main Road. The adjoining trade centers Kootnaadu and Perumbilavu have become major markets owing to the decline in business at Chalissery. Prominents banks are State Bank of Travancore (with ATM), Catholic Syrian Bank and Chalissery Co-operative Society Bank. Nearby the Angadi is one of the oldest Police Stations in Kerala, recently it has got new buildings for staff quarters.

The Chalissery Post office (Pin 679536), Health Center, Civil Station, Veterinary Hospital and Auditorium are located on the way about 1.5 km from Main Road. The Chalissery High School started in 1957, has been on a path of revival for the past 10 years with elimination of politics/elections. Past few years the SSLC pass percentage have been one of the highest, it has started +2 education level with new buildings. Recently the school has got a modern play-ground/auditorium. Nearby it also has the Govt. Primary School, while on the next parallel road is the Church primary school.

The Royal Dental College is situated at Iron Hills (Irumbinkunnu).
