Chakora

Chakora a village 5 KM west of Chakwal on Talgang Road , next to Odherwal. Aboded (as the legend goes) by Baba Kamal a brother of Baba Odher the ancesestor of Oudherwal.Chakora is fully aboded by Kahuts (although Oudherwal consists of Myres and Gonadals also) is the birth place of Chaudhry Muhammad Zaman Khan a prominent a respeted zamindar and educationist who was a founder father of Education movement to educate Kahuts. Present Distric complex is located on the 'shamlat' of Chakora where zamindars of Chakora used to thresh their wheat and other corps. In old times Chakora was famous for its full bearded men who were regular namazis and staunch Muslims. With the changing times Chakora and its inhabitants have also modernised. While in old days Daraz Kkan was famous for his Oxes, one of his Ox was offered a grand price of about one lakh Rupees in 60s but he sacrificed it on Eid in the name of God. Prominent persons of Chakora were Nurials, the family of Chaudhry Muhammed Zaman Khan, his sons,Capt.Chaudhry Muhammad Khan who was House A.D.C to President Gen. Yaha Khan, Chaudhry Ahmed Khan Advocate,grand children,Brig. Iftikhar Haider the first Hig armiy officer and Dr.Sameena Khan, Dr.Aneeqa Khan first Doctors from Chakora, Ch. Shahwali Khan(his son in law). The Mahrs, the family of Fateh Khan ex counceller, Baba Kothi, his son ch. Nawaz etc. Being land owners of Chakora the main occupation have been agriculture cultivation although some kahuts opted for government and other employments also, but now most of the new generation of Kahuts of Chakora are employed /settled in HongKong and Sudia/Gulf.









Chakora, a kind of partridge, is a legendary bird described in Hindu mythology. It is believed to reside upon the beams of the moon, that is, the Chandra. The association of Chakora and Chandra has given rise to a number of folk love stories in north India.
