Chaganti Somayajulu (also known as 'ChaasO') (b.15 January 1915 - d.1 January 1994) is one of the popular Telugu writers.

He was born at Srikakulam but came to Vizianagaram after adoption. He studied in Maharajah's College, Vizianagaram.

His first story Chinnaji was published in Bharathi in 1942. Subsequently he wrote many short stories and poetry. Many of his short stories have been translated into other languages. Compilation of his short stories were published in 1968. He compiled short stories of some important writers as Kalinga Kadhanikalu during his 70th birth annivarsary.

He influenced may people and friends such as Sri Sri, Srirangam Narayana Babu and Acharya Ronanki Appalaswamy. (Here is a correction I must make.I am a witness in those years 1969 to 1974 Sri Chaganti Somayajulu daily visits in the evenings to Sri Ronanki Appala Swamy gari house for "Ronanki"openion and sujjestions on his work in Telugu prose & poetry."Ronanki" reply was "Chaso go home make your daughter Chganti Tulasi to listen,if she says ok then come to me for further improvement.This statment made by me because Chaso not influenced "Acharya Ronanki Appalaswamy" but Chaso learned many things from "Ronanki"---Vejayanand Hyderabad 09963305656)''Progressive thinking, creative subject building, social awareness are the dominant features in most of his writings. He intends to built up the self confidence in Indian women.

He was long time member and president of the Progressive Writers' Association of Andhra Pradesh.

He died of throat cancer on 1st January 1994 at the age of 79 in Madras. He donated his eyes and body to Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute for research purpose. He was survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
