Paracorophium lucasi |
Chaetocorophium is a monotypic[1] genus of amphipods in the family Corophiidae, containing only the species Chaetocorophium lucasi (Hurley, 1954).
It is found only in New Zealand - in the North Island lakes Rotorua, Waikare, and Rotoiti, and at Whakatane, Raglan, Waitara, and Wanganui - and in the South Island in lakes and intertidal mudflats. It is epigean.[1]
The genus is very close to Paracorophium, and some researchers propose synonymizing the two genera.[2]
C. lucasi was listed as "Sparse" in the 2002 New Zealand Threat Classification System list for freshwater invertebrates.[3]
