Chaenomeles cathayensis are a species of Japanese Quince. Its flowers can range from pink to white. The fruit is pear-shaped pome. The fruit is edible but very tough when raw. Cooking softens the flesh. They can be use in pies and to make jellies. The fruit is used as herbal medecine to treat rheumatic pain, nausea and diarrhea. They are cultivated as ornamental trees and as be grown as bonsai.
