Chadhiyan Chanthu (Chandu) is a character in the Kerala folklore. He was a warrior figure of Vadakkan Pattukal (northern ballads) who lived in the 16th century in the North Kerala a small state in south India. Chanthu was a Chekavan (warrior). Chanthu, is said to have deceived and killed his cousin, Aromal Chekavar in an Ankam (a fight between two chekavans until one dies). So the word 'Chadhiyan' meaning deceiver, has been added to his name.
