Chad Robert Orvella (born October 1, 1980 in Renton, Washington) is a relief pitcher for the Major League Baseball Tampa Bay Rays.Chad spent his college career at North Carolina State as there starting shortstop and would also pitch in certain situations. Orvella was drafted in the thirteenith round of the 2003 amateur draft by Tampa Bay. In 2004 Chad was named the Rays minor league pitcher of the year. Orvella made his major league debut on May 31, 2005 against the Oakland A's.Orvella's pitching repertoire consists of a 95 m.p.h fast ball as well as a descent change up and an average slider. He was the early favorite for becoming the Devil Ray's closer in 2006, however he struggled in spring training with his command and was sent down to AAA Durham. Replacing reliver Chad Harville in late August 2006, Orvella assumed a role on the Rays as a reliever. On June 11, 2007, however, Orvella was optioned to the minors.
